Ernst Hansch Construction Ltd. was the successful contractor for a design build proposal call to construct a new gymnasium facility at the University of Manitoba for the 1999 Pan American Games and to ultimately replace the University’s existing 48 year old gymnasium.

The main gym features a cushioned Bio-channel II Sport wood flooring system with three full size basketball/volleyball courts and retractable seating for 3,080 spectators. With spacious foyers, washrooms and gathering areas, this facility includes three canteens and a 3,600 sq. ft. athletic therapy centre.

The challenging schedule and budget for this project were both met and the facility was successfully completed and ready to open in time for the Games.
