CP Rail New Wash Bay and Locomotive Pit
Ernst Hansch Construction Ltd. was the successful bidder for the construction of a locomotive parts wash bay, the extension of a locomotive diesel shop pit and the construction of new locomotive jacking pads.
The schedule was critical as operations required the work to be completed as part of a new operations plan for the facility. The work was completed while the shop maintained regular operations. Ernst Hansch Construction Ltd.’s team and Canadian Pacific’s team worked closely together to work through the logistical challenges. The project was completed on time with no down time to Canadian Pacific’s operations.
The new wash bay is constructed with all galvanized steel to ensure a long-life span. A new pressure washer system was installed and a grease interceptor pit with concrete baffles and a heated floor was constructed. The wash bay includes a new exhaust system and hose reel.
The pit for locomotive mechanics was extended a total of 22’ and included upgrades to air lines, LED lighting and power. As part of the scope of the project a new 1 ton jib crane was installed and Ernst Hansch Construction Ltd. fabricated a new steel lifting beam capable of lifting up to 70,000 lbs. utilizing the overhead cranes.
With a capacity of 75,000 lbs, the new jacking pads constructed by Ernst Hansch Construction Ltd. provide the foundation to jack up locomotives. The work was completed under strict quality control standards.
